Branding is one area of your business that you can’t afford to overlook. It’s the tone, look, feel, and personality of your business.Â
While you may not have an in-house team to assist with all aspects of marketing, we can share a few tips on how you can build a cohesive brand for your small business.
Here are four simple tips:
Create a brand or style guide
This will establish the exact colors, fonts, logo and other collateral used for your marketing materials, whether those are in print or online. Simply utilizing consistent visuals can have a huge impact on your marketing efforts and present a more polished, professional look. Think of it as a mood board for your business.
Decide the tone for your brand
This is something that should be incorporated into your brand guide. Deciding the tone used for your brand will translate to social media posts, flyers, communication with clients and more. Is your brand casual and fun? Formal and elegant? Clean and modern? Also consider your audience. Setting the tone for your conversations will help you remain consistent across all marketing channels.
Use professional photography
Make sure to build an inventory of quality images to represent your business. This doesn't mean you can't (or shouldn't) use candid photos on occasion especially on your social channels. What we’re recommending here is to find professional quality photos within your budget to represent your brand, whether that’s through a paid session with a photographer or quality stock photos to represent your services.
Be consistent
One of the most common mistakes we see small businesses make is not being consistent with their branding efforts. They have one logo on their business cards and a completely different logo on their shopping bags. Or they use one color scheme in their printed materials and completely different colors inside their brick-and-mortar store. Just because you decide on a color palette and a logo for your business doesn’t mean you’re locked in for eternity. But for now, pick an option and stick with it.
